Five minutes with... Melanie Gibbs

We caught up with Melanie Gibbs, 42 year old Instagrammer and mum-of-two, for a quickfire round of questions about her fashion and style favourites. You might recognise Melanie as our Three Ways to Wear model in the October issue of Hood, or from her super stylish Instagram page, @roseandthetote.

When did you first become interested in fashion?

“I first became interested in fashion when, at age 14, I started saving for Elle magazine with my pocket money. I became slightly obsessed with the fashion editorials and started trying to draw and make my own designs.”

What’s your favourite piece of clothing - either past or present?

“My favourite piece of clothing is my Burberry raincoat. It’s over ten years old and it just instantly makes me feel put together when I am in a rush. Definitely worth the investment.”

Which one item do you think every woman should have in her wardrobe?

“I think every woman should have a really good black tuxedo jacket. Great dressed up with an evening dress, or down with jeans and trainers. A great staple.”

What do you love about sharing your style on social media?

“I love the creative side of putting flatlays and looks together. Also being a woman in her 40s with a love of fashion, it’s a chance for me to show you can wear on-trend pieces at any age.”

Which trend will you be wearing this A/W?

“My must-have trend for A/W 18 is definitely the faux fur or teddy coat. It instantly updates a casual or smarter look and is super cosy and chic. My favourite brand just now is Scandinavian brand Stand, but Mango and H&M have some beauties worth checking out.”
