A pedicure for all seasons at Zen Lifestyle

We’ve long regarded pedicures as a spring and summer staple. Baby-smooth feet and colourful painted toes, ready to slip into a pair of sandals. During the cold winter months, however, the nails can become dry and brittle leading to splitting, breaking and often pain or discomfort. They might be hidden away underneath cosy socks and ankle boots, but it’s still important to take care of your feet during A/W.

As we now know that proper foot care is essential in every season, Hood was invited to Edinburgh’s multi award-winning beauty salon, Zen Lifestyle, to test out their Deluxe Spa Pedicure – a treatment recommended to maintain the overall health of your feet during the cold winter months.

What to expect at Zen Lifestyle

Hanover Street’s branch of Zen Lifestyle is everything you could hope to expect from a luxury beauty salon. Clean white lines, walls lined with pretty topiary and comfy sofas to relax in on arrival. This is definitely the kind of place that you want to head to for a relaxing pamper session.

All pedicures at Zen are carried out in one of their chic treatment rooms so you don’t have to worry about baring your feet to everyone before they’re good and ready.

What does the Deluxe Spa Pedicure involve

The pedicure treatment is an hour and fifteen minutes long, beginning with the feet being bathed in a foot spa made up of oils and ointments. Legs and feet are exfoliated, followed by the careful removal of hard skin and precise cuticle work.

Both feet are then submerged in a warm mixture of paraffin, a petroleum-based wax, and mineral oil. This warming treatment soothes aching joints and improves circulation, and the combination of oil and wax softens rough skin. The pressure-point foot massage that follows is divine, with hot towel compresses to soothe tired feet.

If that’s not enough, a customised eye mask is then applied to the face, with a stress-relieving scalp massage. The nails are then beautifully shaped and polished with two coats of colour and a thin topcoat for protection.

Does it work?

Yes, definitely! A very luxurious and effective treatment which warms and soothes your feet as well as softening and hydrating your nails, Zen Lifestyle’s pedicure will leave you ready for the cold winter months ahead.
