Dubarry to Open First Scottish Store on Edinburgh’s George Street

Heritage Irish brand Dubarry is set to open its first Scottish store at 54 George Street, Edinburgh, later this month, marking an exciting new chapter for the label best known for its premium country and sailing footwear. The location, part of the city’s historic Assembly Rooms building, will give the brand a fittingly grand home in the heart of the capital.

Founded in Ballinasloe, County Galway, in 1937, Dubarry began life as a local footwear venture before carving out a global reputation. In the early 1990s, it became the first brand worldwide licensed by GORE-TEX® for leather sailing boots, launching the now-iconic Shamrock Boot. Its reworking of this technology for country pursuits led to the enduring Galway Country Boot, which remains one of Dubarry’s signature styles today.

With stores already established in London, Cheltenham and Dublin, the Edinburgh opening will bring Dubarry north of the border for the first time. Its collection of boots, clothing and accessories is particularly well suited to Scottish landscapes and country pursuits, making the expansion a natural fit.

The move will also signal more good news for George Street, which had suffered a retail slump following the arrival of the St James Quarter. In the last two years, however, the street has seen a steady revival, with Monica Vinader, Phase Eight, Rodd & Gunn, Sunspel and others joining established names like Anthropologie, Bobbi Brown and Whistles. Dubarry’s arrival will further strengthen its appeal as a destination for discerning shoppers.

For those seeking timeless investment pieces that balance craftsmanship with performance, Dubarry’s Edinburgh store will offer just that—rooted in heritage, but made for life outdoors in Scotland.
