Trends. From the nod to the minimalist nineties to full-on rose-inspired romance and homespun crochet, the spring/summer catwalks were full of contrast. But that’s ok, if it means we can adapt what we have (being sustainably-minded) and we can also pick and choose who we want to be and when, then we are good. To help you decipher what to channel this season we’ve taken inspiration from the runways and pulled our edits of the key looks on the high street. Trends should never dictate your style but with a little knowledge and know-how you’ll be able to decide what works for you, how you can rework the gems you already have, and how you want to blend the current zeitgeist into your closet of forever icons.

Cropped Trenches

Get ready to welcome the short trench as the hero of your wardrobe this season. It’s not just an outer layer; it’s a dynamic and adaptable silhouette that perfectly fits our fast-paced lifestyles. We all crave that perfect transitional piece, and for spring 24 the short trench, or mini mac, takes the spotlight as the hardworking must-have.

RETURN OF NINETIES’ MINIMALISM

Pare it back a little. All the way back in fact, to the nineties, if you please. It’s a welcome return to clever basics including the razor sharp pencil skirt, the classic white shirt, slouchy tailored trousers and the shrug-on-and-go blazer. All chosen in a classic muted palette of greys, camels and monochrome combinations. Just Google Caroline Bessette-Kennedy for your go-to icon, slick your hair down and go.

Little White DressES

The little white dress is of course a spring/summer perennial. This time around choose clean lines, luxurious fabrics, including linen, silk and sustainable cotton (obviously), and keep accessories to a minimum. It’s all in the dress detail. Indeed, while a simple silhouette is key, so are little intricacies like a draping neck-tie, a tone-on-tone belt or an exaggerated puff sleeve. Take Grace Kelly’s belted and cape-backed white dress in the 1956 film High Society as your inspiration. If you haven’t seen it. Go watch.

Coming up roses

Romance was in the air across the Spring 24 catwalks inspiring us all to wear the prettiest of dresses adorned with roses galore. Sprinkle a little bit of pretty by introducing a little petal power into your day-to-day look or go full bloom in a rose print maxi dress for that big day date in your diary. All a little too saccharine sweet and “Charlotte from Sex and the City’ for you? Mix it up, don’t wear it head-to-toe and add in some unexpected footwear - boots or bordering on clumpy soled sandals - to remove the full-on 1950’s feel to this pretty trend.

Craft & Crochet

Embrace Spring 24’s nostalgic nod to the 1970’s obsession with crafty looking clothes and the wonder of crochet. Warm up to the trend in spring by adding a crochet cardigan or polo top as a little layer over a shirt or vest with wide-legged jeans. By the time the summer days hit and your holiday, maybe somewhere exotic, is upon you, you’ll be ready to go full-on crochet dress as an easy cover-up to take you and your bikini from beach to bar, seamlessly.

Eclectic Grandpa

Stemming from Gen Z’s seamless blend of ‘old’ and ‘new’, this gender-neutral style draws inspiration from grandad’s wardrobe, transforming it into a captivating fashion statement. Create the look by coveting knitted vests, loafers, slouchy trousers and oversized shirts.
