A New Skin Solution

Skin tags, stubborn warts and those little brown marks we'd rather be without. Edinburgh's Dr Hala is introducing CryoPen to her clinic, but it's her expert eye and careful approach to skin health that make this new treatment particularly interesting.

We've all got the odd thing about our skin that bothers us. Perhaps it's a skin tag that catches on a necklace, a raised bump that's been there for years or a brown spot that seems to have appeared overnight. They're often harmless, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't quite like to see the back of them.

The good news is that Edinburgh aesthetic doctor Dr Hala is adding CryoPen to her treatment offering, providing a quick, targeted way to remove certain unwanted skin lesions. And, as you'd expect from a doctor with a background in surgery, she's as interested in understanding what's happening with your skin as she is in treating it.

Small Treatment, Precise Results

CryoPen sounds rather more dramatic than it is. Essentially, it's a clever little device that uses extremely cold gas to freeze unwanted skin tissue. The treated cells gradually break down and are naturally shed as the skin heals.

What makes it particularly useful is its precision. The fine, pen-like applicator allows Dr Hala to concentrate the treatment on a specific lesion, helping minimise unnecessary exposure to the surrounding skin.

It can be used on selected skin tags, warts, seborrhoeic keratoses (those harmless, often slightly waxy or raised growths that become more common with age) and certain lentigines, the flat brown marks associated with sun exposure.

Of course, there's a difference between a mark you'd like removed and one that's suitable for treatment. That's where Dr Hala's medical experience comes in.

An Expert Eye On Your Skin

One of the advantages of visiting a medically qualified aesthetic practitioner is having someone who understands that not every skin concern is purely cosmetic.

With four years of surgical experience before specialising in aesthetics, Dr Hala brings a thorough, medically informed approach to her consultations. Before reaching for the CryoPen, she'll examine the lesion, consider whether freezing is appropriate and discuss what can realistically be achieved.

And if something doesn't look quite right? She won't simply remove it.

Any lesion that raises concerns, perhaps because it's changed in size, colour or shape, started bleeding or developed persistent irritation, will need further medical assessment. Dr Hala will advise you if she feels additional investigation is necessary rather than proceeding with cosmetic treatment.

It's reassuring to know that the appointment isn't simply about getting rid of something you dislike. It's also an opportunity to have it properly assessed by a doctor who understands when further investigation may be needed.

What About The Treatment Itself?

For suitable lesions, CryoPen is generally a straightforward procedure. The freezing process usually takes just seconds and local anaesthetic isn't normally required, although you may feel a little stinging or discomfort.

Afterwards, the treated area might look red or swollen, and a small blister or scab can form. This is part of the skin's response to freezing, and healing generally takes a few weeks, depending on the area treated.

There are a few things worth bearing in mind. Some lesions need more than one treatment, and there is a possibility of temporary or permanent changes in skin pigmentation or occasional scarring. Dr Hala can talk you through the potential risks and likely outcome before you decide whether to go ahead.

Coming Soon To Dr Hala

CryoPen will soon be available at Dr Hala Aesthetics on Bread Street in Edinburgh, adding another option for patients who have been putting up with a skin concern they'd prefer to address.

And while the prospect of finally getting rid of that bothersome skin tag might be what brings you through the door, having Dr Hala's expert assessment of whether it should be removed is a rather valuable part of the appointment.
