If you’ve always wondered how those A-listers and influencers always look so groomed, allow us to let you in on one of their top beauty secrets - it’s all about the brows.

Beautifully-groomed brows are a lifestyle choice, requiring regular maintenance and often, professional upkeep, to ensure that they look their best and frame your face in the most flattering way.

So, whether you like fluffy ‘faux-naturel’ brows, 90s-style pencil-thin brows or you just don’t know what type of style would look best on you, read on for our top tips and product recommendations for beautiful brows, every time…

Don’t tweeze them - unless you really have to

Over-plucking your brows, or plucking them into the wrong shape, is one of the easiest mistakes to make, and the most common reason for imperfect brows. It’s just too easy to get carried away! Professionals advise you not to pluck at all and wait for your regular appointment, but at the moment, whilst it’s tricky to see your regular pro, needs must.

If you really do have to tweeze, go easy and just remove one or two hairs that are obviously standing out - and remember to always use good-quality, clean tweezers.

Let them grow naturally

Sparse brows are the complaint of many women who lived through the 90s - but your brows may be naturally quite thin too. Either way, if you want to bulk them up for that bushy look a la Cara Delevingne, you need to grow them out. Luckily, now’s a pretty good time to let them go wild without worrying about being seen in public!

For speedy growth, try applying a rich oil every night, such as almond or olive oil (you can use this on your nails too), and massaging it into the brows for five minutes before you go to bed. After a few weeks, you should start to notice a difference in the thickness of your brows.

And if your growing brows are proving a little unruly, invest in a clear brow gel and apply this daily, to keep them tame even on makeup-free days.

Find the right shape

This is definitely a task to leave to the professionals! Your brows really do frame your face and change the way you look, so it’s imperative to choose the right shape for your features - bearing in mind that your natural shape might not be the best for your face.

If you’ve never had them shaped before, wait for a professional to help you; they’ll take your features into account and measure your brows too, to create the most flattering shape.

Try a tint

Sometimes, your brows might need a little boost of colour - particularly if your hair is fair or greying, you might want to enrich the colour to keep them looking strong. You could use an at-home daily tint, like a coloured brow mascara which washes off each night, or for something more permanent, there are options such as a semi-permanent brow tint or even a henna tint - both of which should be done by a professional brow artist.

Remember, less is more

A really sharp, defined eyebrow might look fabulous when you have a full face of makeup, but is it the most practical for your everyday look?

The best kind of brows are the ones that look naturally brilliant (even if that’s not the case - your secret’s safe with us!). So think softly defined brows, with a touchable texture, for the perfect everyday look. A soft, waxy pencil, a tinted gel or even a bar of soap are the ideal tools to give you beautifully groomed brows in seconds.
