IWC Schaffhausen’s Year of the Goat

IWC Schaffhausen welcomes the Year of the Goat in the Chinese zodiac.

Gold, black ceramic and titanium. IWC Schaffhausen’s latest Chinese New Year edition makes a strong case for keeping things simple, with one unexpected detail hidden on the reverse.

The Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Year of the Goat is limited to 500 pieces, arriving ahead of the Chinese New Year in February 2027. Its gold-coloured dial is a first for the collection’s annual editions, set against black subdials, a ceramic bezel and a brushed titanium case.

It’s a warmer take on IWC’s typically utilitarian pilot’s watch, without losing the technical edge that makes it interesting in the first place.

Turn it over, and the real detail reveals itself. Behind the sapphire crystal, the gold-plated rotor takes the form of three goats, a traditional Chinese symbol of good fortune and happiness. It’s an unexpectedly playful touch on an otherwise considered piece of watchmaking.

Inside, IWC’s in-house 69385 calibre delivers the mechanics, with a 46-hour power reserve and a chronograph layout designed for legibility. Even the day and date display gets a nod to the occasion, with the Chinese character for goat appearing in place of the numeral eight on the eighth of each month.

Limited to 500 pieces, it’s a watch that balances technical purpose with something more personal: a little symbolism, a little gold and a detail worth turning it over to see.
