Autumn Season: Dried Botanicals

When you're decorating for autumn, nothing looks more chic than an arrangement of dried botanicals. So, we spoke to Fife-based floral stylist, Mel Sinclair aka @the.naturalstylist on why she thinks we’re all going wild for dried flower arranging this fall.

Colour choice

The obvious choice is to go for orange tones at this time of year, but hues of blue and purple look equally stylish this season too. In fact, many preserved flowers and stems can be tinted to any shade you fancy so can match any interior colour scheme, looking great all year round.

The sustainable option

Ready dried stems can be expensive to buy but they last for years making this an purse-friendly way to brighten the home. Or why not try drying your blooms from the garden? Simply tie together with string or unflavoured dental floss and hang upside down in a dark, dry, well-ventilated area - airing cupboards are ideal. The drying process will take about two to three weeks.

Versatile

We can get creative with our botanicals. Using vases of different heights, sizes and colours to bring interest and variation to arrangements. Stems have so many different textures and tones from the fluffy pampas to the fragrant eucalyptus and lavender - no two displays are the same.

Make an occasion of it

Get the girls round for a mulled wine or pumpkin spice latte and have some fun with wreath making. There are lots of tutorials online to help if you get stuck.
