Bar Prince x Jannettas Gelateria: A Limited Edition Wine & Gelato Pairing at The Balmoral
This summer, The Balmoral’s Bar Prince is serving up a playful twist on fine dining with a collaboration that pairs wine and Champagne with artisan gelato. From 25th August – 7th September, the iconic Edinburgh bar joins forces with Jannettas Gelateria of St Andrews – Scotland’s most celebrated family-run gelateria – to present an indulgent tasting menu that blends Italian heritage with modern flair.
Inspired by a growing trend in New York, Paris and London, the Bar Prince team, led by Giovanni Cassino and Stefano Pinna, has created a four-course tasting where two scoops of gelato meet their perfect glass of wine or Champagne. Each pairing has been carefully curated to highlight unexpected flavour notes, offering a unique sensory experience.
The Pairings
Tahini Gelato & Sancerre – £24.50
Exclusive to this menu, toasted sesame paste and cream create a savoury-nutty gelato with a refined smoothness, perfectly lifted by a crisp Sancerre.
Pistachio Gelato & Charles Heidsieck Champagne – £26.50
Made with Sicilian pistachios, this creamy and subtly sweet gelato is elevated by the elegance of Champagne bubbles
Tayberry Gelato & Charles Heidsieck Rosé Champagne – £28.50
A true taste of Scotland, this tart-sweet gelato is made with locally grown tayberries and finds its match in the vibrant notes of rosé Champagne.
Chocolate Sorbet & Valpolicella – £21.50
Rich cocoa indulgence balanced by the fruity depth of a Venetian red wine.

A Meeting of Icons
This collaboration brings together two Scottish institutions with deep Italian heritage. Jannettas Gelateria has been handcrafting gelato since 1908, when it was founded by Benedito Jannetta, and is now run by fifth-generation brothers Lewis and Ross Hazel. Their dedication to traditional Italian methods and quality ingredients is legendary. Bar Prince, meanwhile, is part of The Balmoral – a Rocco Forte Hotel – itself shaped by the Forte family’s Italian roots and commitment to hospitality. Together, they’ve created a menu that reimagines gelato as a sophisticated dining experience.
