Cult US lifestyle brand Free People opens its first-ever Scottish store this January, bringing boho romance, FP Movement and a bespoke tartan to the capital.

There’s a new fashion address to add to your Edinburgh hit list. Free People is opening its first-ever Scottish boutique on George Street, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting retail launches of the year.

Opening on Friday 23 January 2026, the two-floor, 7,974 sq ft space brings everything we love about Free People under one beautifully curated roof. Expect the brand’s signature vintage-inspired, romantic pieces alongside We The Free’s effortlessly cool denim, leather, tees and outerwear – the kind of wardrobe staples that look better the more you live in them.

One entire floor is dedicated to FP Movement, featuring the largest FP Movement assortment in Europe. Designed for running, hiking, racket sports and mat-based workouts, it’s a collection that feels perfectly pitched for Edinburgh life – whether you’re squeezing in a reformer class, heading up Arthur’s Seat or clocking steps between coffee stops.

There’s also a thoughtful nod to local creativity. The store will stock a curated edit of partner brands, including Scottish label Clòimh, founded by designer Hollie Mercedes. Select Clòimh pieces will launch in an exclusive Sienna colourway, available only at Free People Edinburgh and online.

To mark the opening, the brand has even created its own Free People tartan, blending its signature pinks with traditional green and plum tones. The print features throughout the store, with original artworks by local artist Farah Saffari bringing it to life in-store.

The interiors strike that perfect balance between heritage and modernity. Original stonework and arched windows have been preserved, while signature pink hues, mango wood furnishings and a skylight-flooded layout give the space a bright, uplifting feel.

Best of all, the opening won’t be a one-day affair. Free People is planning a programme of in-store moments and creative installations to welcome the local community, making this feel like a genuine love letter to the city rather than just another store launch.
