From fine lines and wrinkles, to hooded eyelids or sun damage, a huge number of things can take a toll on our skin in a variety of ways, and it can be confusing to know how to treat these issues.

Not sure where to start when it comes to improving your skin? Ask the professionals! Dr Nestor’s Medical & Cosmetic Centre has recently introduced innovative Plasma BT treatments to its Edinburgh clinic to help treat a wide range of skin problems. The treatments use cutting-edge technology to offer a non-surgical solution to improve skin and aesthetic concerns, and you’ll be guided through the whole process by Dr Nestor and skin health doctor, Dr Sobia Ali.

But what exactly is Plasma BT, and how does it work? Plasma is an ionised gas which can hold an electrical charge. This electrical charge works throughout the surface of the skin to the epidermal layer, and as the energy flows deeper within the skin, its intensity and its effects change to generate a variety of results, giving scope for treating multiple issues in one application. Plasma is fatal to bacteria, making it effective for use in acne treatments, whilst also supporting skin’s cell regeneration, helping skin to look younger and fresher.

You don’t need to worry about the science bit - Dr Nestor and Dr Ali will take care of that. All you need to know is that the plasma breaks down germs and bacteria, increases the skin’s absorption rate, tightens skin at the dermal layer, and stimulates the generation of collagen. Brighter, plumper, more youthful-looking skin? Yes please!

Currently, Dr Nestor’s Medical & Cosmetic Centre offers two types of Plasma BT treatment: Plasma Surgical and Plasma Shower.

Plasma Surgical (despite the name) is a non-surgical treatment which uses a needle to target the plasma very precisely, exactly where it’s needed. The plasma sublimates excess tissue, and triggers skin tissue regeneration and collagen production, all achieved without incisions or sutures. The result: lifted and more youthful looking skin. This treatment is particularly great for eye contouring, and improves the appearance of eye bags and hooded eyelids without the need for scalpels, general anaesthetic and hospital stays.

As well as creating a wide-awake and youthful look around the eyes, Plasma Surgical can also be used to treat crow’s feet, reduce wrinkles and remove skin tags, as well as softening some scars.

If you suffer from acne or excessively oily skin, Plasma Shower might be the perfect treatment for you thanks to its unique bacteria-destroying abilities.

Plasma Shower is an extremely fast procedure that works to reduce active acne. It removes bacteria, aids absorption levels within the skin, and stimulates the production of collagen too, for clearer, healthier and firmer skin. This treatment is quick and very effective, with no downtime required. It can also be used in conjunction with medical-grade skincare to improve the appearance of dark under-eye circles.
