Met Gala Monday

Tonight, the world’s most-watched red carpet rolls out in New York

It’s the first Monday in May — and that means only one thing in the fashion universe: the Met Gala is back. Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the annual soirée is more than a parade of couture and celebrity posing. At its heart, it’s a fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute, with tickets reportedly hitting a jaw-dropping $75,000.

This year’s theme? “Tailored for You” — with guests dressing in response to the exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Inspired by Dr Monica L. Miller’s landmark 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the show explores how tailoring, identity and resistance are woven together through centuries of Black style and self-expression.

Expect bold suiting, subversive silhouettes and plenty of references for fashion historians to pore over. The livestream kicks off at 11 p.m. GMT, hosted by Teyana Taylor, La La Anthony and Ego Nwodim, with Emma Chamberlain back on interview duty. Watch via Vogue’s website or YouTube and prepare to dissect every dramatic hem, jewel and gesture.
