Celebrating Negroni Week, the Hebridean way
Isle of Harris Gin gives the classic Negroni a Hebridean twist in the Negroni Na Mara.
As Negroni Week heads into its final weekend, we’re raising a glass with a rather good Scottish twist on the classic cocktail.
If ever there was an excuse to mix a Negroni this weekend, this is it.
Negroni Week runs until September 27th, with bars and restaurants around the world celebrating one of the most iconic cocktails around — all while supporting a good cause.
Naturally, we rather like the idea of giving ours a Scottish spin.
Enter the Negroni Na Mara, meaning Negroni of the Sea, created by Jillian MacLennan, Private Cask and Consumer Experience Lead at Isle of Harris Distillery.
Rather than the traditional combination of gin, Campari and sweet vermouth, this Hebridean version swaps the vermouth for rich ruby port. The port brings the sweetness and body a good Negroni needs, while allowing the Isle of Harris Gin to take a little more of the spotlight.
The result is familiar enough for Negroni purists, but with a distinctly Scottish twist. And frankly, it feels like a very good way to toast the weekend.
