Scottish Dairy Hero
The surprising staple that’s making a comeback – and could soon come in your dream flavour
In partnership: Graham’s Family Dairy
Everyone’s chasing protein right now – shakes, bars, powders, you name it. But before you reach for something in a foil wrapper or a long list of ingredients, let’s talk cottage cheese. The quiet hero of the dairy world is having a full-blown glow-up. Thanks to TikTok trends and a new wave of health-first foodies, this once-retro tub has become the go-to for smart, satisfying meals.
High in protein, low in fat, and endlessly versatile, Graham’s Cottage Cheese — made right here in Scotland — has quickly gone from fridge basic to food must-have. And now? The cult favourite could be coming in a brand-new flavour of your choosing.
This summer, Graham’s Family Dairy is putting the power in your hands with its Find a Flavour campaign, asking the public to vote on the next big cottage cheese hit. In the lead-up to the Royal Highland Show, they’re inviting fans to suggest fresh flavour ideas — from savoury twists to sweet surprises. The top three will be unveiled at the show, where attendees (and online voters) can help crown a winner.
Whether you’re a lifelong cottage cheese fan or just cottage-curious thanks to the For You Page, there’s never been a better time to experiment. Below, three simple ways to serve it — and love it.
Three Simple, Satisfying, and Seriously Clever Cottage Cheese Recipes
1. High-Protein Pancakes
Fluffy, filling, and freezer-friendly
These are not your average pancakes. With oats, eggs and Graham’s Cottage Cheese, they pack a serious protein punch. Ideal for post-workout refuelling or a weekend brunch that actually keeps you full.
Ingredients:
200g Graham’s Cottage Cheese
2 eggs
½ ripe banana
45g rolled oats
½ tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
Optional: vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon
Method:
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes. Cook in a non-stick pan over medium heat until golden on both sides. Serve with Greek yoghurt, berries, or a drizzle of honey.
2. Light Alfredo-Style Pasta
Creamy comfort, no cream required
This clever swap uses cottage cheese for a rich, silky sauce that’s surprisingly light. Perfect with tagliatelle or spiralised courgette.
Ingredients:
200g Graham’s Cottage Cheese
1 small garlic clove
2 tbsp grated Parmesan
A splash of pasta water (around 1–2 tbsp)
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
Method:
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Warm gently in a pan, stir through cooked pasta, and loosen with a little more pasta water if needed. Finish with extra Parmesan and cracked pepper.
3. Whipped Cottage Cheese Toast
Your new lunch obsession
Think ricotta toast, but fresher. Whip until creamy, spread on toast, and top with whatever’s in the fridge. Try roasted tomatoes and basil, or smoked salmon with cucumber.
Ingredients:
100g Graham’s Cottage Cheese
1–2 slices sourdough, toasted
Your choice of toppings
Method:
Whip or blend the cottage cheese until smooth. Spread generously on warm toast and top with your chosen ingredients. Finish with herbs, olive oil, or chilli flakes.
